Current Projects

Two projects MPS is currently working on are:

  1. Smoky Lake County MDP and LUB review
  2. Town of Viking LUB and MDP review

Smoky Lake County Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw Review
Smoky Lake County is a rural community with a population of over 4,000. The region includes beautiful lakes and views along the North Saskatchewan River as well as being situated in an excellent location in relation to the Alberta's Industrial Heartland (15 min drive). This project includes an in-depth review of the County's main planning and development documents. We have worked closely and intensively with County administration and Council to ensure that these documents will accurately represent the ethos of the community specifically in relation to:
  • environmental stewardship,
  • heritage resource management and,
  • promoting the growth and stability of working landscapes within the region including agriculture, forestry and resource sector industries.
The project involves:
  • A land suitability assessment of the County's physical assets
  • Visioning with stakeholders
  • Development of an implementation strategy for cumulative effects management
  • An intensive review of the County's Land Use Bylaw to ensure that the language reflects current development issues and is easy to understand and apply.

Town of Viking Land Use Bylaw and Municipal Development Plan Review
Viking is a vibrant community with a population of just over 1,000. The community boasts phenomenal health care services and is ideally situated along the future Ports to Plains trucking route. This Plan and Bylaw review project is in the early stages. The project will incorporate a land suitability analysis and public engagement tools to identify goals, objectives, policies and locations for future land uses within the community. The project will also include an extensive review of the Town's current Land Use Bylaw to ensure that the uses are current and reflect development pressures facing the community today.
