Our History / Our Future

The origin of MPS dates back to 1996. That's when the company was founded by Bill Dolman, a professional planner since 1973. The company was formed in Edmonton under the name Municipal Planning Services (Alberta) Ltd.

Over time, the company has diversified and grown to become more adaptable to meet the changing needs of our clients and to engage in a broader array of planning project work. These changes have resulted in the expansion of our team to include additional planners, designers and planning technicians. Today, MPS's well-rounded team offers a range of consulting services to clients exclusively in the public and non-profit sectors throughout Alberta. Planning work is supported by in-house services that include GIS, mapping, graphics production, project management and community consultation. For projects that require expertise in other areas, our affiliations with reputable professionals allow us to seamlessly form inter-disciplinary teams.

To better reflect the company today and as part of succession planning for the future, Municipal Planning Services (Alberta) Ltd. changed its name in 2010. The new name Municipal Planning Services (2009) Ltd. or MPS for short, represents the transition of the company while still maintaining our commitment to our past. Bill Dolman is still a part of the MPS team and the firm has retained what our clients value most: our commitment to the public and non-profit sectors; our expertise in matters pertaining to planning statutes and land use bylaws and our commitment to providing a long term collaborative service to clients to help ensure the success of rural communities.
